Friendship Village, Boomers form perfect partnership
Friendship Village Schaumburg senior living community is once again hosting players from the Schaumburg Boomers for the summer.
This mutually beneficial relationship began 10 years ago. Boomers management was looking for housing for its young players who come from around the country. Staying with host families during the baseball season greatly helps defray costs. Staying at Friendship Village, renowned for its healthy, active lifestyle, was the perfect solution.
The residents of Friendship Village experience the energy and excitement of the young players, while the players are fulfilling their lifelong dream of playing professional baseball.
The 2022 Boomers players staying this season at Friendship Village are Chase Dawson from Chesterton, Indiana; Braxton Davidson from Ashville, North Carolina; and Kyle Arjona from Cape Coral, Florida.
Friendship Village has been celebrating its visitors and its hometown team through several events, including a meet and greet at the retirement community.
Last week, approximately 100 residents, family members, and staff attended Friendship Night at Boomers Stadium. The event featured residents throwing out the first pitch and competing in a home run derby, filling in as announcers, and serving as the honorary manager of the day.
"This is a great community partnership for Friendship Village and Schaumburg Boomers. Both teams win," said Amanda De La Matta, lifestyles activity manager.
Friendship Village is a leading Life Plan retirement community offering independent living garden homes and apartment homes, as well as assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing care, and short- and long-term rehabilitation services.
