The Bit Theater celebrates Independence Day with 'A Salute to All Nations … But Mostly America'

The Fox Valley's premiere long-form improv theater, The Bit Theater, will host a special weekend of shows entitled "A Salute to all Nations … But Mostly America."

Based entirely on audience participation, the shows promise to feature "freedom, history, games, and freedom."

"As someone who recently became an American citizen, I cannot think of any better way to celebrate the country than by trying to make people laugh with it" said Phil Green, one of the show's co-producers and directors, "I started my improve journey in my hometown of Liverpool, England, and I'm really excited to be performing in Aurora."

Since opening in 2021, the Bit Theater has delighted patrons with classes, jams, and weekly shows.

"We couldn't be happier to be bringing long-form improv to the suburbs," said Michael Bradt, co-owner of the Bit Theater "we're often people's first experience of this type of comedy, and we always hear how much they'd like to see more. It's Our holiday-themed specialty shows have been a hit, and 'A Salute to All Nations' is shaping up to be the same."

The show, being co-produced and directed by Paul Micheli and Phil Green, will be a mix of long- and short- form improv, based entirely on audience suggestions and participation. Long-form improv is often compared to a spontaneous play, whereas short-form improv can be described as playing "games" with established rules that the audience can follow.

"A Salute to All Nations … But Mostly America" has a limited run on Friday, July 1, and Saturday, July 2 at the Bit Theater in Aurora. The show features experienced improvisers Phil Green, Paul Micheli, Dana Meecham, Mike Herman and Ross Myers.

"The joy of improv is that no two shows are ever the same," said Paul Micheli, "so whether you come on the Friday night, Saturday night, or both, you're going to get a different experience."
