Chop Around the Clock returns June 3-4

"Chop Around the Clock," the popular downtown Batavia fundraiser, is back this year after a two-year hiatus.

The brainchild of Craig Foltos, owner of Foltos' Tonsorial Parlor, 7 E. Wilson St., the 24-hour event was canceled for 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But it is back this year, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, June 3, and running to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, outside in front of the tonsorial parlor in downtown Batavia. "We have missed sharing this event with you, but are so excited that it is back," said Foltos.

"Chop Around the Clock" is 24 hours of Foltos and other stylists cutting hair and doing their thing, with the all the money collected going to benefit Ronald McDonald House in Chicago.

The connection between Ronald McDonald House and "Chop Around the Clock" goes back to the beginning of the event in 1989, which means this will be the 31st Chop.

The event typically features music, dancing, a bake sale, balloon blowing, bingo, a raffle, an open mic, poetry, food, fun stories - all in addition to the hair cuts.

"This fine community has raised more than $350,000 for the Ronald McDonald House," Foltos said. "If you can cook, like to laugh, listen to music, make music or need a haircut, we can use your help."
