Josh Guge, world renowned wood sculpturer, to give presentation at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center

On Tuesday, June 7, renowned wood sculpturer Josh Guge will be giving a presentation on his artwork at the monthly meeting of the Elgin chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America.

It will begin at 7 p.m. at Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St. in Elgin.

Bob and Josh Guge founded the Guge Institute in 2004. The goal of the institute is to share the Guges talents and knowledge with students around the world.

The Guges have gained national recognition for winning world level competitions at prestigious sculpting competitions around the country. Bob taught wood carving seminars for 30 years and was a five-time world champion bird carver.

In 2013, Bob passed after a year long battle with brain cancer. Josh now continues the family legacy of creating and promoting the arts.

Josh is a three-time world champion wood sculptor and art instructor.

Over the last two decades, he has worked with thousands of students in over 25 states around the country. He also teaches regular classes at his studio in Elgin.

The Guges are known for simplifying this complex art form that incorporates; drawing, three dimensional design, sculpting and painting.

The Guge Institute offers a variety of classes year round including: wood sculpture, drawing, painting, design, airbrush and more.

Just recently, Josh won Best in World honors in the re-creation category - Masters division, at the 2022 World Taxidermy and Fish Carving Championships.
