DAR Delivers Over 600 Books to Barrington Early Learning Center
Barrington-based Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) obtained book donations for children at the Barrington Early Learning Center for summer reading.
The center serves over 300 students, almost all at-risk children, ranging in age from 3 years to 5 years old. The goal was to send each child home for the summer with two books for their families to read together and to keep. Over 600 books were donated by DAR members and the Paul and Dottie Spiewak Foundation.
Over half of the books were new with titles suggested by Michelle Acosta, Ed.S., Principal/Early Childhood coordinator. Becky Gill, Ed.D., Director of Elementary Curriculum & Instruction, identified the need within the district and was on hand to receive the books. The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded in Barrington, IL in 1972. NSDAR is a volunteer women's service organization headquartered in Washington, DC.
Due to fundraising efforts throughout the year, the Chapter contributes financially to several 501 (c) (3) organizations whose missions support that of NSDAR: historic preservation, education, patriotism, conservation, and Native Americans.
NSDAR provides more than $1.5 million in scholarships annually. It is the largest group of participants in support of Wreaths Across America. Through its various programs and initiatives, NSDAR strives to increase the awareness of men and women who achieved American independence, including those of diverse backgrounds.
Since its founding in 1890 over one million women have joined both nationally and around the world. Membership in NSDAR is open to any woman aged 18 and over who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. For more information, visit: https://signalhilldar.com.
