Lombard Police Department announces distracted driving enforcement results

The Lombard Police Department announced it issued 250 (cellphone) handsfree law violations during the April distracted driving enforcement period.

In addition, the Lombard Police Department issued the following:

• 138 Speeding Citations

• 67 Seatbelt Citations

• 18 Child Seat Safety Citations

• 119 Other Citations (Moving/Non-Moving)

• 23 Arrests, including 12 Driving while License Suspended/No Valid Driver's License Arrests; 1 Criminal Damage to Property Arrest; 4 Warrant Arrests; 1 Felony Arrest for Possession of Altered Registration; or 5 DUI Arrests.

"Distracted Driving Awareness Month allowed Lombard Police to bring a heightened awareness to stop motorists from engaging in this dangerous, and all too common, behavior," said Traffic Safety Unit Patrol Officer Dan Herrera.

The Lombard Police Department joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners for this enforcement effort.

Using your phone in anything other than the hands-free mode in Illinois is not only dangerous but also illegal. Break the cycle. Drop it and drive.

The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
