Junk Remedy was named best junk removal company in the 2021 Daily Herald Readers' Choice contest.

Like many small businesses across the country, locally owned Junk Remedy has faced some difficulties since the beginning of the pandemic. Operating out of Lake Zurich, this professional junk- and trash-removal company was started with one truck in 2009 by owner Nick DeGiulio, who grew up in Barrington.

Today the business operates nine trucks and has a staff of 14 people.

"The business was built through referrals from satisfied customers and clients and our reputation as an honest and dependable company," he said. "We pride ourselves on standing out from other junk removal franchises by building personal relationships and being involved locally."

DeGiulio was thrilled that his company won the 2021 Daily Herald's Readers' Choice Best of the Best award in the junk removal category. "Of course it's an honor to receive recognition like this, especially during a time when so many small businesses are facing challenges to even stay open," DeGiulio said.

Junk Remedy is licensed, bonded and insured. The company gives free estimates and handles all loading, labor, cleanup and disposal fees.

Junk Remedy employs a reliable team that covers a 50-mile radius. From a single item to an entire residential or commercial property, Junk Remedy will service all of your junk- and trash-removal needs.

DeGiulio brings an environmental and social consciousness to his business with responsible junk disposal through recycling, donations or sanitary landfill. "We recycle and donate to local charities so the money stays in our communities," he said.

The company provides continuous contributions to organizations such as WINGS, Home of the Sparrow, Sparrow's Nest, House of Hope and more. DeGiulio also sits on the board of the nonprofit organization Lake County Responds For Veterans, which assists veterans in need by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and coordinating the process of repairing, building and donating homes.

"This was a great local cause for us to be involved with because we can provide the donations to help set up these homes and help raise funds for veterans" DeGiulio said.

Junk Remedy recycles and donates as much as it can from every job, throwing away as little as possible. Electronics are sent to a recycler while furniture and clothing are donated primarily to local charities. They also work off other organizations' wish lists, filling whatever needs they can. And they often donate free cleanup services for local charity events such as Relay For Life, 5K Salute and Color Blast for Autism.

"The goal is always to provide the best service and leave our clients happy," DeGiulio said. "I'm proud of how far we've come as a business and look forward to the future."
