Volunteers from 7 local Rotary Clubs to pack meals for Ukraine April 7

On the afternoon of Thursday, April 7, seven Rotary Clubs will come together to provide meal support for Ukraine.

Working with The Outreach Program and Feed6, this group effort will be providing 22,000 meals.

Each club contributed $1,100 which covers costs of the meals, packaging, and shipping.

Convoy of Hope is providing shipping to Ukrainian refugees in Europe at no cost, allowing the clubs to pack more meals.

The Salvation Army Elgin Corps has generously offered their facility, supplies and manpower to support this project.

The participating clubs are: Rotary Club of Carpentersville, Rotary Club of Dundee Township, Rotary Club of Elgin (Breakfast), Rotary Club of Elgin (Noon), Interact Club of St. Edwards High School-Elgin, Rotary Club of Fox Valley Sunset, and Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn.

The seed for this project was planted in March at a Rotary Leadership Conference that brought together more than 500 Rotarians from more than 5 states.

Laurie Bitter of the Rotary Club of Elgin (Noon), Liz Mager of the Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn, and Nancy Effert of the Rotary Club of Fox Valley Sunset, all presidents and president-elects, met and developed an immediate connection.

They felt the dire and immediate need created by the war in Ukraine and formulated a plan to help.

Doing something in some way, even at a small scale, to help the people of Ukraine is one of the strengths of Rotary. It has been a joy to include other clubs within our region.

There will be over 95 volunteers present to accomplish their goal of packing 22,000 meals.

Rotary International has over 1,400,000 members in over 62 countries around the world, including 60 in Ukraine.
