Libertyville Stars Going to State

After a two year pause in competitions, the Region B Districts Swim Meet for Special Olympics returned to Lake Forest College on Saturday, March 19th. The Libertyville Stars Special Olympics Team was thrilled to return to competition, sending seventeen athletes to compete in various swim events. Eleven Libertyville Stars qualified for State Games by taking first place in their respective event(s) and will be competing in Normal, IL, in the middle of June. Keep an eye out for the Libertyville Stars as they join the Libertyville Police Department in the Law Enforcement Torch Run during the early morning hours of June 12 down Milwaukee Avenue.

The Libertyville Stars Swim Club was formed in 2000 as The Cats Special Olympics Swim Team by Becky Peacock and Ann Davidsen to bring Special Olympics to Lake County. The name formally changed in 2007 to The Libertyville Stars in 2007. There are currently 34 athletes on the team ranging in age from 13 to 50, each with a diagnosis of an intellectual or developmental disability. The current head coach is Tina Lowry. The program is run out of Libertyville High School and is supported through community donations. For more information, please visit www.libertyvillestars.com.
