Seigle Foundation names arts grants for nonprofits

On March 15, the Seigle Foundation announced the awarding $175,000 in grants to the following organizations: Children's Theatre of Elgin, Elgin Art Showcase, Elgin Master Chorale, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton Wings, and Side Street Theatre.

These donations support the arts in the Elgin and Dundee area, the geographic focus of the foundation.

Mark Seigle stated, "We are thrilled with the number and quality of applications received. More importantly, we are so impressed and grateful for the brilliant role these agencies play in our local communities."

For more information see SeigleFoundation.org.

The foundation awards grants for general operating and for projects, primarily to support direct services. Most grants will be for single-year support, but the foundation will consider multiyear support on a case-by-case basis.

The foundation operates four grant cycles per year, one for each focus area:

The application grant cycles are:

• Winter: Arts between Jan. 1-31, with a decision by March 15.

• Spring: Education between April 1-30, with a decision by June 15.

• Summer: Food between July 1-31, with a decision by Sept. 15.

• Fall: Housing between Oct. 1-31, with a decision by Dec. 15.

After receiving a proposal, the trustees may conduct a site visit as part of the review process. Grants typically range from $10,000 to $50,000.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Align with the guiding principles, approaches, and focus areas of the foundation;

• Be a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or have a fiscal sponsor that has 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status;

• Have audited financial statements or external financial reviews;

• Have been in operation for at least three years;

• Operate in and primarily benefit the Elgin-Dundee region.
