Learn about urban tree health at Izaak Walton League program April 5

On Tuesday, April 5, the Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will be hosting a program on the importance of urban tree health. The program by Brent Lundstrom, a certified arborist, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St. in Elgin.

Lundstrom started his career with Bartlett Tree Experts in June 2016 as a plant health care technician. During his time at Bartlett, he has performed the duties as a groundsperson, climber, lead plant health care technician and most recently a certified arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture. His focus will be on maintaining overall tree health, safety, and overall appearance.

Lundstrom has been a resident of Illinois his entire life and participates in outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and golf. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration and a minor in Urban Forestry Management.

The chapter, known as the "Elgin Ikes," was established in 1931. Chapter members volunteer their time to introduce youth and families to conservation, outdoor recreation, and land ethics by building nature trails, restoring stream banks, monitoring and "cleaning" creeks, planting trees, and eliminating invasive species.

The chapter sponsors both a Cub Pack, Boy Scout Troop, and a Venturing Crew. The lodge is located at the confluence of Willow and Poplar creeks.
