Maine West Student Accepted to Prestigious Music Program

Sophia Luong, a junior at Maine West, was accepted to be a member of the Carnegie Hall NY02 program. The summer program which lasts a month is for outstanding young musicians where they will receive intensive training and performance opportunities. Participating musicians have the opportunity to work closely with top players from American orchestras and conservatories during a residency at Purchase College, State University of New York.

NYO2 is a tuition-free program for all participants. The program provides room and board during the residency and covers all expenses related to instructional, rehearsal, performance, and other activities.

A formal nomination from a teacher or an administrator was required as part of the application.

Approximately 80 musicians from around the country are invited to participate each year. The NYO2 participants will perform in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage to conclude the program.

Sophia also was accepted to the two-week 2022 Juilliard Summer Percussion Seminar in NYC, another highly competitive program but has chosen to participate in the NYO2 program.

Nearly a year ago Sophia wrote a score titled "March 2020" that was recorded on May 31, 2021 at Guarneri Hall in Chicago following her participation in the Fellows of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
