Enter Palatine Library's poetry contest

Palatine Library invites you to enter its 13th annual poetry contest. Aspiring poets of all ages can submit their best original piece Tuesday, March 15, through Tuesday, April 5. This contest is open to all valid district cardholders; winners receive a Barnes & Noble gift card.

Contest guidelines and entry forms are available online beginning Tuesday, March 1. Submit online at palatinelibrary.org/poetry.

Winners are announced at a Poetry Fest, which will be held from 3-4 p.m. Sunday, April 24. This celebration takes place at the library and includes a supportive audience and family-friendly open mic. Sign up on the library's website to save your spot for this in-person event. This celebration is open to all ages.

Librarian and poet Tracie Padal has helped plan and coordinate Poetry Month activities since celebrations began 13 years ago.

"This program gives every voice a chance to be heard and demonstrates why that work is so important. Regardless of how old or young you are, poetry is a safe place where we can all come together and learn about ourselves, one another, and the world around us," Padal said.

"We hope that this contest challenges our community's aspiring poets to grow their skills, and we can't wait to read their masterpieces."
