D214 waives 2022-23 registration fees
High School District 214's board of education has waived student registration fees for all students for the 2022-2023 school year.
Board members voted during their Jan. 20 meeting to suspend the $425 fee in response to continuing economic uncertainties in the community linked to the ongoing pandemic.
"This board counts among its responsibilities an awareness of and response to trends in our community," said board President Bill Dussling.
"One reality is that an increasing number of our families are experiencing financial challenges that could make it difficult for them to cover registration fees for the learning opportunities that are so vital to their children's future success. Suspending registration fees for an additional year will offer a degree of relief."
District 214, which also suspended registration fees for the current school year as an early response to the pandemic, has identified cost savings elsewhere to offset revenue typically generated by registration fees.
The $425 registration fee covers such items as textbook rental, instructional materials, digital learning, school calendars, physical education shirts and locks, a pass to regular season home activities, an iPad Protection Plan and the school newspaper.
In addition to waiving the registration fee, the board voted to suspend co-curricular participation fees. Remaining in place will be parking lot fees and fees for the Behind-the-Wheel portion of Drivers Education.
District 214 also encourages parents who might be eligible for free or reduced meal benefits to apply through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
