College of DuPage earns top national award in financial reporting

College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. This year marks the 27th time that COD has received GFOA recognition.

COD President Dr. Brian Caputo said the award is a testament to the college's commitment to responsible and transparent financial planning.

"There is a significant amount of effort that goes into preparing a financial report that meets the criteria for this award. This recognition symbolizes the high standards we place on ourselves to accurately record and report on the financial activities of the college," he said.

"Presenting an annual comprehensive financial report that captures the full detail of the college's information is a priority for the administration. The document provides full transparency and demonstrates college leaders' wholehearted acceptance of their fiduciary responsibilities," said COD Vice President of Administrative Affairs Ellen Roberts.

"We are gratified that the GFOA has recognized our commitment to best practices and strong financial management," she said.

The Government Finance Officers Association advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve. Financial reports are judged annually by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive and clearly communicated spirit of full disclosure.
