Naperville advocate for the homeless to speak Nov. 30

Naperville resident Diane Nilan, an author, filmmaker and fulltime advocate for the homeless, will speak on her mission at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the Fox Valley Park District's Prisco Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave. in Aurora.

The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

Since leaving Aurora's Hesed House homeless shelter as executive director, Nilan has driven her recreational vehicle across the U.S. bringing awareness and supporting legislation to address the plight of homeless families.

She will discuss her activities and present an excerpt from her book, "Dismazed and Driven." Additionally, Nilan will accept donations of disposable diapers and feminine hygiene products for the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry in Aurora.

Nilan was instrumental in getting the Illinois Education for Homeless Children Act passed in 1994 and also the McKinney Vento Act in 2001.
