Magical Starlight Theatre to hold auditions for 'A Shopper's Christmas Carol' Nov. 5-6

Magical Starlight Theatre is planning a special outdoor holiday performance of "A Shopper's Christmas Carol" at the Naperville Riverwalk Amphitheatre on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 11-12.

The script follows the Charles Dickens story, "A Christmas Carol," with adaptations by Paul Mapes, a local writer.

Auditions for principal roles or featured vocals will be held on Friday, Nov. 5, from 6 -8 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center (ARRCC), located at 305 W. Jackson Avenue.

The cast will include adults and youth who are in 4th grade or older. Those interested only in a role in the ensemble do not need to audition, but must register through Naperville Park District at www.napervilleparks.org.

Those who wish to audition for a principal role or featured vocal must register for an audition slot at (link) by Tuesday, Nov. 2. Rehearsals will take place at the ARRCC from Nov. 8-Dec. 10.

"We are so excited to be spreading holiday cheer to the community with this enduring story of transformation and the power of kindness and charity," said Kris Visher, director. "To have the opportunity to share this classic Dickens tale through drama and music is truly a privilege."

As announced this past summer, the Naperville Park District has decided not to offer a Magical Starlight Theatre production in January 2022.

Although COVID restrictions in Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan allow more freedom for the performing arts, uncertainty still remains regarding the availability of auditorium space in the Naperville school districts.

Magical Starlight Theatre is a program of the Naperville Park District, providing family-oriented community theater since 1994.
