Elgin's St. Sophia Church hosts Fall Greek Food Fest Oct. 15-16

St. Sophia Philoptochos is hosting a Fall Greek Food Fest on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16, at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Elgin.

Dine-in or carryout is available between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the church, 525 Church Road, just north of I-90, off Route 31.

The dinner menu includes gyro sandwiches; combo plates with pastitsio (Greek baked pasta dish with ground meat and béchamel sauce), dolmades (Greek stuffed grape leaves), cheese puff, spinach pull, vegetable; Greek-style chicken with rice pilaf, vegetable; spanakopita (spinach pie) with rice pilaf, vegetable; Greek salad; Avgolemono soup, a Greek-style cream of chicken with rice and lemon, served with crackers.

For treats, order baklava; galatoboureko, a phyllo, custard and honey drizzle; Kok, a Greek-style Boston cream doughnut; kourambiethes, butter cookies topped with powdered sugar; melomakarona, honey dipped walnut cookies; karidopita, walnut cake with a syrup glaze; a six-pack of koulourakia cookies; or rice pudding.
