Join the youth-led Parade of Nations during Aurora's First Friday Oct. 1

Aurora will continue the monthlong celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month - "Aurora Avanzando" - by celebrating cultural diversity and youth leadership at the Parade of Nations on Friday, Oct. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. outside of Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place.

Students from Simply Destinee Youth Center will represent 20 Latin countries with a special ceremony that includes brief presentations on each nation followed by a downtown flag parade led by Aurora youth.

The ceremony will also feature a performance by popular 9-year-old mariachi Ryan Cornejo and a presentation of youth leadership and community service awards.

All student visitors will receive free Hispanic Heritage Month pencils.

The sidewalk route for the walking flag parade:

• Begins at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place;

• West on Downer Place;

• North on Stolp Ave.;

• East on Galena Blvd.;

• South on Water Street Mall back to Aurora City Hall.
