Woodlands Academy students receive National Merit commendation
Two Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart students have distinguished themselves in the current National Merit Scholarship competition. School officials recently were informed that Berkeley Borkert, of West Dundee, and Caitlin Mooney, of Chicago, are among high school seniors nationwide being recognized for exceptional academic promise based on outstanding qualifying test results.
Borkert and Mooney each received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, and their school. While included among the top scorers, commended students do not continue competing for National Merit Scholarship awards. Some of them are likely to become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 nationwide who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
These students represent a valuable national resource, according to the NMSC, which believes recognizing their accomplishments - as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development -- is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.
"Woodlands Academy is proud to share in commending Berkeley Borkert and Caitlin Mooney who clearly have demonstrated such outstanding potential for academic success," said Principal Rocco Gargiulo. "We hope that this recognition will inspire them to continue to pursue academic excellence."
