The St. Charles Public Library is offering a series of six virtual genealogy workshops developed by professional genealogist Caron Brennan for those with a wide range of research experience and expertise.

The series begins on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. with a session on basic genealogical research and record keeping.

Subsequent sessions will build upon that foundation to explore other research opportunities and tools useful for genealogists and family historians.

Future virtual workshops include "Using FamilySearch.org" on Wednesday, Oct. 6; "Using FamilySearch Wiki and Family Tree" on Wednesday, Oct. 20; "Ancestry.com" on Wednesday, Nov. 3; "Research Your Family History Using the Internet" on Wednesday, Nov. 17; and "Organizing for Genealogists" on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

It is not required to take all six sessions.

Registration is required. For more information or to register, visit scpld.org or call 630-584-0076.

Throughout the month of September, the library is celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up Month with Marley Dias, this year's honorary chair. At just 16 years old, she is the founder of #1000BlackGirlBooks, an author, executive producer and activist. Her mission is to encourage people of all ages to get a library card, to experience new stories and make changes to empower themselves.

Visit the library during September for a chance to enter to win a Chicago CityPASS package admission for four people to five of Chicago's world-renowned museums and includes transportation passes.

In addition to books, eBooks, magazines, CDs and DVDs, computers, games, software and other multimedia materials, a library card provides access to programs, homework assistance, resume and job search help, and online adult education courses and much more. Discover all the benefits of having a St. Charles Public Library card.

Getting a library card is easy. Visit scpld.org/get-library-card to learn more or to start the online process.
