Village of Long Grove to host 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The village of Long Grove, in partnership with the Long Grove Fire Protection District, will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in the parking lot at the fire station, 1165 Old McHenry Road.

This outdoor ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. It is anticipated to last approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

"As Americans we should take pause every Sept. 11, remembering those, who without hesitation, answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice," said village Manager Greg Jackson. "This Saturday is the 20th anniversary of that fateful day and the village of Long Grove chooses to formally recognize those who have fallen and those who serve today."

The event agenda will include:

1. Welcome remarks: Chief David Riddle, Long Grove Fire Protection District

2. Blessing

3. Posting/Presenting of Colors (BSA Girls Troop 1490)

4. Singing of the National Anthem

5. Brief remarks: -Long Grove village board President Bill Jacob, Long Grove Fire Protection District President Kristen Linnenberger and Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg.

6. Presentation of Plaques of Appreciation to above listed first responder groups.

7. Flag brought to half-staff (Long Grove Fire Protection District first responders)

8. Fire Bell Ceremony for those lost and never found (Long Grove Fire Protection District first responders)

9. Singing of God Bless America

10. Retiring of Colors (BSA Girls Troop 1490)

First responder representation will include members of the Long Grove Fire Protection District, the Countryside Fire Protection District and the Lake County Sheriff's Department, which will be dependent on timing and participation in other events.

Dignitary invitations have been extended to those local, state and federal elected officials that represent Long Grove.
