Saxophonist Daniel Bennett plays CD release at Hey Nonny Aug. 18

New York saxophonist Daniel Bennett has been hailed as one of the most original and unpredictable musical voices of his generation.

The Daniel Bennett Group plays its Chicago CD release at Hey Nonny, 10 S. Vail Ave. in Arlington Heights, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Purchase tickets at www.heynonny.com/shows/daniel-bennett-group.

The group is celebrating the release of its new album, "New York Nerve." Bennett will be joined by bassist Kevin Hailey and percussionist Koko Bermejo on drums and keyboard.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette described Bennett's music as, "modern jazz, surf rock and avant-pop."

Bennett's 2021 album release, "New York Nerve," was conceived outside under snow-covered heat lamps at New York City jazz clubs. The Daniel Bennett Group was the first jazz ensemble to record in Manhattan after studios reopened in 2020.

Bennett is a touring clinician and associate director of the New York Jazz Academy in Times Square, and recently played woodwinds in "Blank! The Musical," the first fully improvised musical to launch on a national stage.

Bennett's theatrical works have strongly influenced his eclectic sound and musical storytelling abilities as a bandleader.
