Nate Swanson, a 2018 graduate of York Community High School, has been recognized as one of America's leading college photographers.

Swanson is the photojournalism runner-up in the prestigious national contest sponsored by the Hearst Journalism Program announced in June, winning $1,500.

Early this year, Swanson also was awarded $1,000 for second place in a separate Hearst photo competition.

A rising senior at Ohio University, Swanson is director of photography at the award-winning student publication, The Post.

This summer, Swanson is an intern in Washington, D.C., for Deutsche Welle, the global German media company. His work has been distributed internationally. The internship was arranged by the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.
