Kids at Aurora Advent Christian Church raise $400 for charity
Children attending Aurora Advent Christian Church's vacation Bible school had fun, learned about God, and raised $400 for an international charity.
The Rev. Matt Mull said nearly 50 kids enjoyed crafts, recreation and learned about love, trust, faith, joy, and hope in God June 7-11. Most activities were held outdoors. Rev. Mull thanked “an amazing group of volunteers and your generous contributions for crafts, snacks and other expenses.”
Tori Mull, closing program director, announced at the Friday, June 11, event that church children raised funds for Compassion International. Based in Colorado Springs, Colo., the American child sponsorship and Christian humanitarian aid organization aims to positively impact long-term development of children living in poverty globally.
The Aurora church's missions offering goal was $100 to buy a goat for CI. The final total was enough to sponsor four goats, with change left over.
Children brought in donations daily for the missions project in a boys-versus-girls competition. The girls won three of five days. Since change accounted for nearly half of donations, it was suspected some piggy banks were emptied.
Aurora Advent VBS was offered for children from preschool through fifth grade. Bible study, music and crafts were included.
COVID-19 precautions were followed, including facial masks and hand sanitizer use when children entered.
Weather permitting, most activities were held outdoors. Indoor activities were socially distanced in well-ventilated areas. Snacks were prepackaged.
