Volunteers help keep the community clean and green
"Serve the community you live in" is the mantra for HSS (Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh) and Sewa International. These two organizations recently participated in the DuPage County Adopt-A-Highway to make a positive impact in Aurora.
Adopt-A-Highway is a program in DuPage County where a group of people or an organization volunteer to pick up litter and clean both sides of the highway.
On Saturday, June 5, with the help of 22 volunteers, the organizations were able to coordinate and split into two teams. Each team worked hard to clean up roadside debris and litter within a mile distance on both sides of the highway. Each group diligently picked up paper, plastic items, soda cans, etc. to make the highway pristine.
Before the program started, Aurora's 10 Ward Alderwoman Shweta Baid and 8th Ward Alderwoman Patty Smith stopped by to encourage the volunteers. They both emphasized how important it was to serve the community. By seeing many young adults in the group, both Alderwomen Davis and Baid appreciated the organizations for instilling a heart for community service at a young age. They especially praised the children who participated in the cleaning and thanked everyone for their hard work.
A rewarding experience for all ages to help make roadways safer by having less debris.
