Waubonsee to hold inaugural 5K trail race June 19

Waubonsee Community College is hosting its first community 5K run/walk trail fundraiser. All proceeds from the race will directly benefit deserving area students through the Waubonsee Community College Foundation Scholarship Program.

This family-friendly event is open to the public and will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 19, on the Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. All registered runners and walkers will receive a free T-shirt, a food truck treat, and giveaways from sponsors. Community members are also invited on campus during the race to show their support and partake in food truck delights. Race participants will enjoy a scenic trail on a cross-country style course and an opportunity to help Waubonsee students continue their education and realize their dreams.

"We are so excited to kick off this inaugural, communitywide 5K trail race fundraiser, which will go toward ensuring a brighter future for Waubonsee students," said Melinda Tejada, Vice President of Student Development and Executive Director of the Foundation.

During the 2020-2021 academic year, the Waubonsee Community College Foundation has provided 367 scholarship awards totaling over $331,000 to 325 recipients. To register for the run/walk fundraiser or to learn more about the event, visit waubonsee.edu/5k.
