Lake County Fairgrounds vaccination site now a walk-through model

The Lake County Health Department is announcing that the Lake County Fairgrounds has transitioned to walk-through appointments and will no longer provide drive-through appointments.

This change will allow for increasing available appointments from 1,500 vaccinations daily to at least 2,500 vaccinations daily.

"We expect our vaccine supply to continue to increase, and we are eager to get as many residents vaccinated as quickly as possible," said Mark Pfister, executive director at the Lake County Health Department. "Now that the weather is warmer, the transition to walk-through service at the Lake County Fairgrounds enables us to serve more residents each day."

Once arriving for a vaccination appointment at the Lake County Fairgrounds, visitors should park in the main Expo Hall parking lot. You may only enter the Expo Hall at your confirmed appointment time. Inside the building, masks and social distancing are required.

Disabled parking is available and wheelchairs are available for those who have mobility needs. Let the traffic assistants know if you need a wheelchair when you arrive. Anyone with mobility issues is encouraged to bring someone along who can assist. Those getting vaccinated do not need to come alone.

The fairgrounds site provides the vaccines authorized in the United States, depending on the current supply available. The health department is unable to provide choice of vaccine brand for first doses.

The Lake County Fairgrounds are at 1060 E Peterson Road, Grayslake.

The Regional Vaccination Site at 102 W. Water St., Waukegan, opened April 1, and continues offering drive-through and walk-through vaccinations (for those with no vehicle) by appointment only through AllVax.

This site will predominantly offer Johnson & Johnson vaccine (if supply exists). The site currently offers vaccination appointments Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the location provides free COVID-19 testing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lake County Health Department urges residents to explore their options for vaccinations and take the first appointment available to them. Register in the AllVax system by visiting AllVax.lakecohealth.org, or contact the AllVax support team at (847) 377-8130 or AllVax@lakecountyil.gov.
