Alden of Waterford allows family visitation for the first time since start of pandemic

The phrase "back to normal" is commonly used when referring to the world's attempt to moving forward from the pandemic. While returning to normal may take some time, Alden of Waterford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Aurora is determined to provide their residents an immediate sense of normalcy they once knew.

In compliance with CDC and state regulations, Alden of Waterford was excited to open its doors to family members for the first time in over a year.

Resident, 91-year-old Willie Baker had only seen his daughter virtually throughout the pandemic.

"Willie's daughter is an active visitor," said Tracey Pell, senior administrator. "Once the pandemic hit, it was very hard for us not to allow visitors due to safety and state regulations."

The staff at Alden of Waterford had to think of innovative ways to keep residents and their families connected. Implementing window and virtual visits helped sustain the feeling of speaking with their loved ones in person.

"If it weren't for modern technology, I don't know what I would have done," said Victoria Caffey, daughter of Willie Baker. "I was able to see him virtually, but this was the first time I have been this close to him and just being able to touch him was so heartwarming," Caffey continued. "The time went by so fast, I'm excited for my next visit."

Alden of Waterford's visitor allowance is contingent upon individual, facility, and county case status and is subject to changing regulatory guidance. Fully vaccinated residents are given the personal choice to allow physical interaction with visitors.
