Villa Park Boy Scout Troop 242 supports York Township Food Pantry

On Thursday, Feb. 25, troop member Peter Spaeth representing Villa Park Boy Scout Troop 242 visited York Township Hall and presented Township Supervisor John W. Valle with a generous donation for the York Township Food Pantry.

The troop organized a local food drive, with proceeds collected directly from the front door steps of generous community donors. It was a brilliant way to keep social distancing in mind while making it convenient and accessible for all who were eager to participate.

York Township Supervisor John W. Valle said, "I want to thank Boy Scout Troop 242 and everyone who donated for thinking about our residents in need. We are proud to have such generous partners in the fight against hunger in York Township."

York Township Food Pantry, 1502 S. Meyers Road in Lombard, is always in need of nonperishable donations. The current wish list includes: spaghetti, boxed pasta, canned vegetables, canned chicken/tuna, canned Ravioli/SpaghettiOs, pasta sauce, granola bars, peanut butter, jelly, soup, boxed potatoes, rice sides, mac & cheese, Hamburger Helper, cereal, pancake mix and pancake syrup.

The pantry will accept anything nonperishable that is not on the list. Food can be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays. For details, call (630) 620-2400.

On March 17, the York Township Food Pantry hosted a mobile food truck event, which served over 200 families in just over an hour. The mobile food truck provided dairy, produce, and dry good boxes to families in need. We would like to thank the over 30 volunteers that helped out with this event
