Long Grove puts fresh hop into annual egg hunt

The Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association has announced the return of an early spring family tradition, albeit with some changes.

This year, the egg hunt will be a socially distanced "hop-through" experience instead of a free-for-all blitz.

The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. March 27 in Brother's Field, 344 Old McHenry Road. Families must register at longgrove.org.

Once registered online, participants will bring their own baskets and check in for the free event, then walk through an Easter-themed field, stopping at different attractions while a live DJ sets the tone.

Children will collect their eggs and take a picture with the Easter Bunny, who will be behind a plexiglass wall, before receiving a goody bag and a take-home craft on their way out. Organizers are asking all participants to wear face masks and practice social distancing.

Following the egg hunt, attendees can choose to continue the hunting by hopping throughout town for a Jelly Bean Hunt. Before leaving the egg hunt area, they will be given a card with a list of merchants who are participating.

Little bunnies will then hop into each store and guess the number of jelly beans in the jars and return their cards back to the Long Grove Visitors' Center, 308 Old McHenry Road.

Once the hunt is complete, all little bunnies will be given a treat (while supplies last) and the adults will be entered to win a prize donated by the participating merchants.
