Lexington Health Care Honored Among U.S. News and World Report's Best Nursing Homes for 2020-2021

For more than 35 years, Lexington Health Network has provided health care and senior living services in the Chicagoland area. This year, seven of its nursing homes were named among the Best Nursing Homes by the 2020-2021 U.S. News and World Report. This honor is achieved by only 21% of nursing homes nationwide. Lexington Health Care Centers of Bloomingdale, Chicago Ridge, Elmhurst, La Grange, Lombard, Schaumburg, and Lake Zurich were each individually recognized in the category of short-term rehabilitation. Lake Zurich earned the additional distinction of being among the best in the category of long-term care.

"It is with consistent hard work, dedication, and commitment to providing the very best and most compassionate care that our organization has repeatedly earned this honor," said Martin A. Cauz, Chief Executive Officer of Lexington Health Network in Lombard. "We are especially proud that we earned this distinction during the difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic."

The short-term category includes temporary post-acute care or rehabilitation, typically for patients either after or instead of hospitalization for issues including illness, injury, heart attack, stroke, or recovery from surgery. The goal of short-term rehab is to improve functioning so that patients can transition safely to their homes.

U.S. News and World Report has been publishing their Best Nursing Homes report for 11 years. Their ratings reflect a careful assessment of critical information, including quality of care, health inspections, staffing, and safety, all of which significantly impact patient care and positive outcomes. This year's report also included a patient safety summary reflecting COVID-19 data.

The U.S. News and World Report organization explained that more than 1.3 million individuals wake up on any given morning in a nursing home, and the quality of these care providers varies greatly. Identification of the Best Nursing Homes was developed to serve as a "starting point" for individuals navigating and researching facilities for placement for themselves or a loved one. "U.S. News strives to provide access to information that allows consumers to make educated decisions on all types of care," said Ben Harder, Managing Editor and Chief of Health Analysis at U.S. News and World Report. A total of 2,362 facilities across the country were recognized in the short-term category for 2020-2021.

"We have a strong record of being among the best. Since 2017, Lexington Health Network's care centers have earned the prestigious Best Nursing Home honor a total of 18 times, and for the last two years approximately 90% of our centers have earned the honor! This indicates that our practices are consistent in terms of quality and excellence," said Cauz. "It is the result of a dedicated team working tirelessly on behalf of their residents and patients. Their efforts are evident in the success of our patients transitioning safely back to their homes. We are thankful for the recognition and exceptionally proud of our team."
