Gorton center offering monthly parenting series

As a center for lifelong learning, Gorton Community Center has partnered with the Kick Start Pediatric Therapy Network to virtually offer a monthly series of parenting workshops. The next one-hour workshop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, and will focus on parenting children with challenging behaviors.

"Kick Start Pediatric Therapy is thrilled to be able to partner with the Gorton Community Center," said Erika Larson, owner and clinical director of Kick Start Pediatric Therapy Network.

"Raising kids is never easy. The pandemic offers a whole new set of challenges, as children navigate more time at home and less time at school and with friends. Kick Start is eager to extend our reach to help parents understand child development so they can solve problems effectively and enjoy more time with their children."

The March 10 workshop, "Walking on Eggshells," led by Kick Start Pediatric Therapy Network Clinical Directors Mindy Aharoni, M.S., OTR/L, and Erika Larson, M.Ed., DT, will discuss the underlying factors of children's behavior through a developmental lens.

Aharoni and Larson will highlight how a child's biology, environment and relationships impact behavior. They will also offer a comprehensive perspective that values behavior as a form of communication, along with strategies to promote progress.

Other workshop topics include a holistic approach to speech and sensory motor development, and fostering a sense of play in your child and yourself.

• Walking on Eggshells, March 10
