Be a 'History Detective' with Glen Ellyn Downtown Scavenger Hunt

The Glen Ellyn Downtown Scavenger Hunt is ready for local history detectives!

Looking for something fun to do? This is an activity the whole family can enjoy.

Try the new downtown Glen Ellyn Scavenger Hunt. Print the map from the Glen Ellyn Historical Society website at www.gehs.org.

Walk the Scavenger Hunt in 45 minutes to one hour and mark off the landmarks as they are found. Spot some things that folks may not have seen before!

For a Stacy's Tavern Museum button, bring the completed scavenger hunt to Stacy's Corners Store at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St., and redeem it for a Stacy's Tavern Museum button. The store hours in January are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Be a "History Detective" and investigate the village. Start the scavenger hunt on the north side of Pennsylvania Avenue, just west of the public parking lot behind the fire department and follow the route map to search for clues.

Some of the 18 clues include "find the two funny guys looking through holes," "find a black bird with his wings spread"or "find 'A penny saved is two pence clear' quote." Be careful to watch where you are walking. Some items are up high and some are lower down, and not all are historic.

Copies of the Scavenger Hunt also are available at the Glen Ellyn History Center and Stacy's Corners Store. Call (630) 469-1867 for information.
