Holiday remembrance tradition continues at Glueckert Funeral Home

In a year of many cancellations, the easy thing for the owners and management at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights would have been to call off the annual candlelight remembrance service in light of coronavirus restrictions.

Grief, however, does not take a holiday, even during a pandemic, and the Glueckert staff understands that the funeral home's annual Holiday Luminary Remembrance Service helps make the yearly season of joy a little less painful for those who are grieving.

"This has been a tough year emotionally for people. There's been nothing but loss," said Matthew Bennett, the funeral home's manager. "Hopefully this can be a silver lining."

The service, normally attended by as many as 400 people, will leverage the power of internet livestreaming to welcome an infinite number of people to gather for poems, prayers, short messages from local pastors, and testimonials from families sharing their reflections and memories.

More than 70 families have already submitted photos of their loved ones who passed this year for the memorial tribute.

All are invited to view the online service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. The streamed video will remain online at GlueckertFuneralHome.com throughout the month of December. For information, call (847) 263-0168.
