Surgical Solutions Announces Record Growth As Hospitals Emerge From COVID-19 Crisis

Resumption of elective procedures drives demand for support services

Surgical Solutions, a leading provider of integrated services for minimally invasive procedures, today announced significant growth as U.S. hospitals in areas emerging from the COVID-19 crisis resumed elective surgeries and began processing a backlog of delayed procedures.

In Q1 2020, when hospitals were still operating at full speed, Surgical Solutions facilitated 14% more procedures than in the same period a year earlier, and also saw revenues climb 12%. After a slowdown as hospitals diverted resources into fighting the pandemic, the sector rebounded in May, with Surgical Solutions posting a 148% month-on-month surge in volume of procedures.

Hospital equipment stockpiles and supply chains remain under pressure, and Surgical Solutions is helping facilities in more than 12 states to access the resources and personnel needed to rapidly resume normal operations. Many hospitals in non COVID-19 hotspots are now completing elective procedures at normal or better-than-normal rates, with one of Surgical Solutions' biggest clients completing 15% more procedures than usual in May as cancelled cases were rescheduled.

Since its launch in 2007, Surgical Solutions has forged partnerships with major hospitals and health systems around the country, supporting more than 100,000 minimally invasive procedures annually. Now, as hospitals around the country continue to battle COVID-19, those strategic, risk-sharing partnerships are helping facilities to manage the ebb and flow of elective case volume.

As COVID-19 rates rise and fall, Surgical Solutions allows hospitals to "pay as they go" for human capital, capital equipment, and repairs expenses, buffering health systems against financial disruption and helping them respond flexibly to changing circumstances. With a team of 200-plus certified health professionals, including sterile processing professionals and CRCST-trained technicians, Surgical Solutions can rapidly put "boots on the ground" for pop-up hospitals and clinics. On-demand staff can efficiently facilitate tasks such as decontaminating N95 masks, transporting instruments and equipment, and coordinating with the broader perioperative care team to maximize throughput.

"With hospitals under pressure to stabilize their finances, increasing capacity for revenue-boosting elective procedures in cost-effective ways has never been more important," says Surgical Solutions CEO Alyssa Rapp, a long-time Silicon Valley executive and one of Crain's Chicago Notable Women in Healthcare. "Surgical Solutions is helping hospitals to scale back up quickly and safely, while delivering the world-class care that patients need."
