Aurora Adventists answer prayers of Oswego congregation
An Aurora church has answered the prayers of an Oswego congregation for a temporary outdoor worship site.
Redeemer Community Church of Oswego held its first worship service at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, outdoors at Aurora Advent Christian Church, 905 N. Edgelawn Drive.
Advent is loaning its east lawn area to Redeemer for weekly outdoor worship services during August.
Josh Fenska, preaching pastor, delivered the sermon. A worship band in a small tent provided music. The service included a celebration of communion.
The Rev. Matt Mull, Advent senior pastor, said "We are excited to host Redeemer Community Church starting this week. They will be setting up a tent (40 by 100 feet) and holding outdoor worship services on our property at 4 p.m. on Sundays.
"They had been meeting at Plank Junior High School in Oswego prior to the 'stay-at-home' order and have been praying for a new place to gather. Please pray as we consider how we might partner with them in the future."
Social distancing guidelines are observed. A "Super Safe Zone" is available for persons with health concerns or those seeking to keep more careful social distance. Congregants are invited to bring lawn chairs and shade umbrellas.
Founded in 1988, Redeemer's vision has been to see lives transformed by the power of the gospel to the glory of God. The church focuses on Christ-centered worship, drawing near to God in prayer and praise.
Redeemer church leaders include Josh Fenska, preaching pastor; Josh Anderson, discipleship pastor; and Tim Tatum and Mike Wiersema, pastors.
