Elgin Kiwanis BBQ goes forward with contactless pickup

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin's 61st annual BBQ fundraiser will be going forward as planned this year - with a few notable changes.

First, the normal date has been pushed back one week to allow for more preparation.

Second, the chicken and pork chop BBQ dinner will be pickup only this year (no dining on-site, as in previous years) and will feature several protocols to ensure safety of supporters and volunteers alike.

The new date will be Saturday, Aug. 22. It will be 4 to 7 p.m. in front of Russo Power Equipment at the corner of Royal Boulevard and Randall Road.

All volunteers and servers will be wearing masks and gloves in order to offer a safe and healthy barbecue to the community.

The annual barbecue fundraiser is one of the Kiwanis Club of Elgin's largest fundraisers of the year.

The funds raised help the club provide essential support to our community - especially children in the community.

Tickets are $15 each and include all the fixings for a complete meal.

Tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanis member or at elgin.kiwanisone.org.

The club has resumed its weekly meetings in person and via Zoom at noon Tuesdays at the Holiday Inn & Suites Northwest, 495 Airport Road in Elgin. The club is abiding by social distancing rules; masks are required. If you would like Zoom details, email Kari Christensen at KLChristensen@eyso.org.
