Drive-through barbecue to support Fox Valley United Way
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Fox Valley United Way will hold a drive-through barbecue to raise funds for its Fox Valley Coronavirus Relief and Recovery Fund.
The event, catered by 5B's Catering Service, takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kane County Cougars Northwestern Medicine Field, 34002 Cherry Lane in Geneva. Meals, $15, are a pork chop dinner, chicken dinner or combination dinner. A kids' hot dog meal is available for $5. To place an order, visit foxvalleyunitedway.org/BBQ. Orders will also be taken at the event.
Launched in March in response to the increased demand for social services in Kane and Kendall counties, the Fox Valley Coronavirus Relief and Recovery Fund continues to help the community rebuild in the wake of the pandemic.
"Organizations that assist children and families through economic crisis have seen three to four times the number of people seeking help the last 4 months," said Michael Meyer, FVUW CEO.
"We expanded our relief fund to help organizations and individuals recover, as businesses and schools begin to reopen and as the community faces unanticipated challenges. The barbecue fundraiser will add to the support that we can provide these social service agencies and the people who benefit from their care."
In addition, the event is a chance to thank a local first responder by purchasing a meal donation. Geneva and St. Charles fire and police department staff will receive a free meal that evening, thanks to generous community members.
Kane County Cougars will open its parking lot for meal pickup.
"We are so grateful to the Kane County Cougars for their willingness to partner with us for this occasion," said Meyer. "They have always had a great reputation for working with businesses and local organizations to benefit the community."
