Hundreds take part in bike-a-thon 'Ride Against Racism' in Chicago suburb

The Muslim Community Center in Morton Grove and the Islamic Community Center of Des Plaines hosted a “Ride Against Racism” bike-a-thon last Sunday, July 26th, 2020 from 4 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. The event was held at Harrer Park Morton Grove.

Participants including community leaders and activists met in the Harrer Park Morton Grove. A biker who joins the event says this event is not only to support the diverse community and send a strong message and solidarity for the Black Lives Matter. According to an organizer Mr. Amir Alvi, “The Goal of this event is to bring people together and send a message to the world about Racism. We stand in solidarity against racism and injustice. We organize this event while practicing safe social distancing.”

Participants wear helmets and masks and keep safe social distance while riding bicycles. Biker Including all backgrounds, races, ages and between Age 5 to 70. After the rally end Participants community leaders and folders join where a podium was set up for speeches. Speakers include MCC President Kamran Hussain, ICCD President Fazal Mahmood, Director CIOGC Dr. Abdullah Mitchel, Imam Tariq El-Amin and Mr. Amir Alvi. The event was emceed by Amir Alvi. Speakers condemn racism and urging a renewed commitment to racial justice. Leaders also demand an end to systemic racism and to announce actions to be pursued as a united faith-based effort. Speakers further said that the responsibility to protect human rights primarily rested with the States. We are demanding ensure the total elimination of all forms of discrimination based on race, ethnicity or religion.

Speakers thanked the Muslim Community Center, Chicago and the Islamic Community Center of Des Plaines especially Saba Kaiser Uddin and her team hosted for raising this important topic in the community. At the end a special prayer was performed.
