Women's Club of Inverness appoints new president

The Women's Club of Inverness has announced the appointment of Georgia Lassaro as president for the 2020-2021 year.As Lassaro has been a Women's Club of Inverness member for more than 20 years and has served on the board in various capacities for half of that time, she is an outstanding choice to lead the club at this time.

Lassaro's top priority is to promote an infusion of new ideas and possibilities into the 55-year old women's club. As Lassaro says, "there is always a better way of doing something.”

During these unusual times where everyone is being forced to adapt to new realities, Lassaro is particularly interested in attracting new members from younger cohorts. Her enthusiasm and creativity will be strong assets in making that happen.

Lassaro has a strong history of involvement in her community. After an 18-year career at American Airlines as a supervisor of customer relations for a quarter of the country, Lassaro transitioned to the roles of full-time mother and homemaker and expanded her involvement in volunteer pursuits. She has taught religious education at Holy Family Parish; started a Cub Scout Pack; has served as beautification chairwoman in Cheviot Hills, Inverness, and has been a member of the garden club.

While spending part of the year in Naples, Florida for many years, she was an active member of the Women's Club of Naples.

One of Lassaro's most rewarding projects began in 2002, when she organized a “Shoebox Express” through the Women's Club if Inverness. Hundreds of boxes of donated socks, candy, and other items were sent to our troops in Iraq. A group of grateful soldiers sent a U.S. flag that they carried on one of their missions to the Women's Club of Inverness, which was then donated to hang on the wall of Inverness City Hall.

Lassaro and her husband have one son, a daughter-in-law and three grandsons. They enjoy spending weekends with family at their Wisconsin home.

Lassaro is extremely approachable and eager to speak with potential new members, and is highly committed to “replenishing and growing” the Women's Club of Inverness.

The Women's Club of Inverness, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, has depended on the generosity of the community for more than 50 years to accomplish its philanthropic mission to address the needs of women, children, families, seniors and students. The Women's Club of Inverness has donated over $1 million to local community agencies and scholarships. For information, visit www.womensclubofinverness.com
