Online Teen Programs Continue at Schaumburg Library

Teens are invited to online programs this month involving cooking, trivia, art, exercise and more on the Schaumburg Township District Library's website: SchaumburgLibrary.org. Though the Central Library in Schaumburg and its Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park branches reopened on July 6 with limited hours, there are still no in-person programs in keeping with state guidelines.

The library invites teens ages 12-19 years to a diverse selection of free online programs taking place this week and next.

Teens who enjoy cooking or watching cooking demonstrations can watch "The Quaranteened Cooking Show with Joe: Peaches 'n Cream Lasagna" from 3-3:30 p.m., Friday, July 10. These Friday cooking shows, hosted by Library Teen Manager Joe Marcantonio, will feature desserts throughout July. Teens can cook along with Joe as they watch the video. No experience is necessary.

The library's online "Teen Trivia Night" will take place from 5-6 p.m., Friday, July 10. Teens can join this bi-monthly event using KaHoot on a cell phone or Zoom on a computer. Online gift cards will be awarded to the top five finishers.

All ages are invited to "Dig Deeper with the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity" from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11, online. Participants can use a scene from a book they're reading to draw the background of that scene in the style of Maurice Nobel, whose background art was used in legendary Looney Tunes films.

Teens and adults who would like to get some exercise are welcome to join "Beginner's Mat Pilates" from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 11, online. Instruction will be offered by Audrey DeBouver from Pilates Plus of Schaumburg. Register on the library's website.

Additional teen programs in the coming weeks include "Create and Chill with Indira and Jess," as well as "3D Design and Printing."

Children and teens ages 18 years and younger are also welcome to free meals this summer from noon to 2 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Friday, Aug. 14 at the Hanover Park Branch Library, 1266 Irving Park Rd. Each meal box includes breakfast and lunch for two days.

Many more online teen programs can be found at SchaumburgLibrary.org by clicking on "Events," then "Teens." Some programs require registration.
