Buy some peanuts for St. Charles Kiwanis' biggest fundraiser

The St. Charles Kiwanis Club kicked off Kiwanis Peanut Days, its biggest fundraiser, on July 1 - a full month earlier than in years past.

Peanuts will still be delivered in mid-September.

With the current uncertain environment, donations are being requested and orders placed for a known amount of peanuts instead of the club attempting to meet a predetermined goal as in previous years.

That's not the only difference for Kiwanis Peanut Days 2020.

For the first time in its nearly 70-year history, orange-vested Kiwanians will not be soliciting donations at local venues due to the coronavirus restrictions.

As the club's other two major fundraisers - Rose Day and the Heart of the Fox Festival - were canceled this year as a result of the pandemic, Kiwanians are redoubling their efforts for a successful event.

All donations, minus expenses, directly fund grants to local organizations that help area children and families in need.

Beyond the community, the club is also requesting donations for boxes of peanuts to be delivered to servicemen and women.

Orders must be prepaid, and options include: a case with four boxes of 100 bags of peanuts for $200; a box of 100 bags of peanuts for $50; or a pack of 25 bags of peanuts for $15.

There also is the option of weekly or one-time donations to the St. Charles Kiwanis Club.

Orders and donations can be submitted online at kiwanisofstcharles.org or through club members.

The deadline for donations is Friday, Aug. 7.

Many children need more help than ever before in these troubling times. With the community's support, the St. Charles Kiwanis Club can contribute toward this need.
