Arlington Heights Memorial Library receives funding to provide digital skills training

The American Library Association recently announced that the Arlington Heights Memorial Library is selected to participate in Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, an initiative of American Library Association and the Public Library Association, sponsored by Grow With Google, the tech company's economic opportunity initiative. Arlington Heights Memorial Library will use the funding to offer digital skills training and resources for small businesses to grow and expand their business.

"We are thrilled that we can bring the Libraries Lead with Digital Skills initiative to Arlington Heights," said Jack Bower, Digital Services manager at Arlington Heights Memorial Library. "Businesses need these digital skills so they can grow and thrive, especially in these times. We are honored that the library can be of service here."

The inaugural program for the initiative, Grow With Google: Get Your Business Online, will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7. The session will cover how to get a business started online including how to create a Google profile, appear on google maps and, ultimately, increase your SEO as a result of taking these steps. The program will be presented virtually on Zoom. Register and learn more at www.ahml.info/attend/events.

"Libraries have long been America's gathering place for learning. From learning new digital skills for the workplace, to creating a résumé or growing your business online, people are going to libraries as resources for professional growth now more than ever," said Nicky Rigg, program manager for Digital Skills outreach at Google. "Grow with Google is excited to support library programs across the country to help ensure that economic opportunity exists for everyone."

This program is funded by Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, which was created so that local libraries can combine their own program offerings with Grow with Google training materials to offer virtual community workshops or other activities aimed at empowering small businesses to grow online or assisting job seekers to prepare for and find work.
