New online videos help young Catholic Schools students
On Tuesday, April 7, the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Catholic Schools launched a first edition of 20 e-learning videos for preschool and kindergarten students designed to assist families during COVID-19 school closures.
Video is an effective learning format, especially for children who have not yet mastered reading. Parents and students can access the videos on the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools' YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/channel/UCoXQp-Z7zncrcgQjJrl2wLQ.
"Although our school buildings are closed, it is very important that we continue the learning momentum of our Catholic school students," said Dr. Jim Rigg, superintendent of the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools.
"We are providing extra resources for our youngest students, as they need more direct support for their learning. I am grateful to our dedicated teachers who have created these materials for use during this difficult time."
The instructional videos contain lessons in various core subjects including English, math, religion, writing and science, as well as singalongs and dancealongs. The lessons are offered in English and Spanish.
New material will be added, including lessons in Polish and Mandarin, as content becomes available.
"These videos enable teachers to maintain their positive role as important adults in the lives of young children," said Julie Ramski, director of Early Childhood Education, Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools.
"They provide our youngest students a measure of stability and a personal connection to learning."
Videos are posted on ChiCathSchools, the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools' YouTube Channel. Each Monday at 8 a.m., a video will also be shared on the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools Facebook page, www.facebook.com/catholicschools.
