Elgin girl, garbage man create bond over photos

Before our walk, my 6-year-old daughter Sirena wanted to take a picture of the garbage man on his truck.

As she did, the man came over and said, "You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to take a picture of you taking a picture of me."

So I took a picture of their moment while still respecting each other's 6 feet of space.

Later on during our walk, we ran into the man again, and he said, "I thought you looked familiar. I knew you from Laurel Street, but didn't want to say anything. I used to pick up your garbage when you were a little girl. I've been doing this for 25 years and I know your dad and brother. Your brother lives right over there," as he pointed.

I asked for his name and he said, "Dale," and he asked, "What's your daughter's name?" I said, "This is, Sirena." He then waved and said, "Bye, Sirena," as he honked away.

This made our day!
