Plano resident seeks funds for Lions Club service initiative

Plano resident Ed Carter is on a volunteer mission.

On Monday, Feb. 17, Carter, a 50-year perfect-attendance Lion, talked about "Campaign 100," the Lions Clubs International Foundation's three-year campaign to raise $300 million for Lions' service projects worldwide.

The former governor of Lions District 1-J, northern Illinois, keynoted Aurora Noon Lions Club's biweekly membership meeting at Luigi's Pizza in Aurora.

According to Carter, "Campaign 100" will empower local Lions Clubs to focus on preventing avoidable blindness, fighting diabetes, alleviating hunger worldwide and other projects.

Carter said, "The goal of 'Campaign 100' is to double our service to our world through local Lions clubs. Lions Clubs is the world's largest service organization and the Lions Foundation is the only foundastion to empoower the service of Lions on a global scale."

Aurora Noon Lions donated about $100 to "Campaign 100" after Carter's presentation.

The club, founded in 1922, meets at noon on the first and third Monday of every month at Luigi's Pizza and Fun Center, 732 Prairie St. in Aurora.
