Hampshire School Organization gets matching donation from Hampshire Township Park District
The Hampshire School Organization is fundraising for Phase II of the playground expansion at Hampshire Elementary School.
The new equipment includes an addition to the existing structure, independent play pieces and swings, including an ADA swing.
In December, the HSO launched a fundraising drive to collect cash donations that would be matched, up to $10,000, by the Hampshire Township Park District. They were able to reach this goal and on Jan. 13, accepted a check at the park district's board of commissioners meeting.
"We are overwhelmed with the community's support of our expansion project and are ecstatic about the matched contribution from the Hampshire Park District," said Principal Lisa Van Wageningen of Hampshire Elementary School. "This is a wonderful opportunity that will benefit both our school and our community."
The Hampshire Township Park District utilizes the playground for their after-school program and the board of commissioners felt this was a great way to partner with the Hampshire School Organization on their fundraising goals.
"This was a great collaboration between the two boards and the district is excited to contribute to this project," stated Park District Executive Director Laura Schraw. "Unstructured play is such an important part of a child's growth and development including flexibility, balance and motor skills. Playgrounds have such an important role in helping children learn their own skills and abilities while interacting with others."
The total playground expansion will cost approximately $75,000 when completed.
Phase I, installed in 2018, only replaced a portion of the equipment.
The Hampshire School Organization is a 501(c)3 that is responsible for supporting the school's goals including: interacting between family and school, serving as a source of support, and working with teachers, staff, and the community at large to improve our children's educational experience.
More sponsorship opportunities are available as the Hampshire School Organization works toward collecting enough funds to complete this project.
