Elgin Area League of Women Voters to host two candidate forums Feb. 18-19

The League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area will hold two more candidate forums in February for the March 17 Primary Election, one in Elgin and one in Carpentersville (Dundee Township).

Early voting began Feb. 3 in person only at the Kane County Clerk's Office in Geneva and the Aurora satellite office. Early voting at early permanent polling places and other early voting locations begins Tuesday, March 3.

Only candidates in contested primaries have been invited. Candidates will be allowed to participate even if their opponents do not attend except for federal offices, which must have at least two candidates present to participate.

• On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Dundee Area chapter will host the third forum at 7 p.m. at the Rakow Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville. There will be a meet-and-greet at 6:30 p.m. The Kane County Board chairman race for the Democratic nomination features Greg Elsbree of Aurora and Corinne Pierog of Batavia, and David J. Rickert of Elgin for the Republican nomination (incumbent Chris Lauzen withdrew his candidacy Jan. 15).

The Democratic nomination for Kane County State's Attorney features Jaime Mosser of Campton Hills and Junaid "J" Afeef of Elgin. The Democratic nominee will take on Republican nominee Robert Spence of Batavia in November.

• The fourth forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in downtown Elgin. There will be a meet-and-greet at 6 p.m.

The race for the Democratic nomination in the 8th Congressional District features Inam Hussain of Libertyville, incumbent Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg, and William Olson of Schaumburg.

The state Senate District 22 race for the Democratic nomination features incumbent Cristina Castro of Elgin and Rae Yawer of Streamwood.

The state Senate District 25 race for the Republican nomination features Beth Goncher of Aurora and Jeanette Ward of West Chicago. The Republican nominee will take on incumbent Democrat Karina Villa of West Chicago in November.

The state House District 65 race for the Democratic nomination features Mohammed "Mo" Iqbal of Elgin and Martha Paschke of Geneva. The Democratic nominee will take on incumbent Republican Dan Ugaste of Geneva in November.
