Batavian explores 'Who Is This Man?' as pulpit guest

On Feb. 2, Ron DeBaun of Batavia became the fourth congregant at Flowing United Methodist Church in Aurora to explore "Who is this Man?," personal testimonies about Jesus.

The Rev. Derek Rogers, Flowing Forth UMC pastor, opened his January-February sermon series by inviting congregants to share testimonies.

DeBaun, Flowing Forth lay leader, is serving as interim worship leader during a paternity leave by Rev. Rogers. Guest preacher Roger Jenks of Aurora spoke on "Radical Reformer," based on Luke 6:20-49.

According to DeBaun, he left one vocation to prepare for another. He recently retired from Motion Industries after serving 28 years as conveyor division manager. Next, he said, he will prepare to serve as a Methodist minister.

DeBaun also serves as an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 21 at Holy Cross Church in Batavia.

Rogers' eight-Sunday sermon series, based on the Gospel of Luke, began Jan. 5 and runs through Feb. 23. Flowing Forth UMC meets at Aurora Christian School, 2255 Sullivan Road in Aurora. Worship services are at 10 a.m.

On Jan. 26, Rogers' sermon series explored "Status Quo Defier," based on Luke 6:1-11. The series continues Feb. 9 with "Chain Breaker," Luke 7:36-70; Feb. 16 with "Miracle Worker," Luke 8:22-56; and Feb. 23 with "Messiah and Lord," Luke 9:28-36.

Flowing Forth will host a Fat Tuesday worship and jazz concert at Aurora Christian School on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Worship at 7 p.m. will be followed by a jazz concert by the Mattdodica band. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.
